Is Our Housing Concept Outdated?

I have lived in a large house before. My family used to watch TV together at our living room, but since iPad and iPhone came out, living room, family room became obsolete. We had huge library with close to a thousand books. I and my wife used to race each other for reading more books. But since Powerbook came to our lives, we rarely spend anytime in our library. Big dining room with colonial style dining sets were given away for free but nobody wanted dining sets anymore. We use our dining table by the kitchen the most and it turned into my home office.
My garage never parked our cars, it was always used as my workshop, laboratory, and packing station for online orders. What I am trying to say is that our big house didn’t have any use for our lifestyle in year 2020. We rather have;
- The larger workshop (garage) and not only just one two-car garage but four two-car garages. Each of my four family member should have workshop for him/herself. If we do, I don’t need to pay high rent for my office and laboratory in downtown. My son doesn’t have to pay high rent for his video studio and editing room. My wife doesn’t have to rent a commercial space for her wig design and sewing. My daughter, who works as a fight attendant, can finally start her dream online business while working.
- All of us love travel and hotel rooms. If we love the convenience of hotel rooms why not build a home similar to the hotel rooms? Get rid of living room, library, den, dining room and use that much of space making our rooms like a hotel rooms.
- We spent most our time around the kitchen. Yet, we rarely use all our kitchen spaces. Takeout food is great and ready to cook packages at a local Korean grocery store makes our cooking so simple. Why not simplify the kitchen and expand kitchen dining area bigger. Thats where we spend most of our family time anyway.
- I love to grow my own vegetable, why waist so much of space, time, and energy on yard for useless grasses? Reduce the grass area and expand my vegetable garden.
